Addis Abeba Dec. 1/2016 – Security forces implementing Ethiopia’s six-month State of Emergency have last night detained prominent opposition party leader Dr. Merera Gudina, Chairman of the Oromo Federalist Congress (OFC), upon his arrival at Bole International Airport.

In the past weeks or months, Somali political discourse was dominated by the 2016 parliamentary elections and whether the country will be able to pull this off at all.  Large segments of the society and some key stakeholders were sceptical of the election taking place, insinuating that the incumbent was pushing for a favourable extension, and this means substantial period.  Now that the myth of extension is dispelled and the parliamentary elections kicked off across the Federal States, it appears that the topic has shifted into election mismanagement.

Addis Abeba Nov. 29/2016 – The Africa Regional Conference on Abortion: From Research to Policy will be held from today to Friday, December 2, 2016, in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia. According to organizers, the Guttmacher Institute, African Population and Health Research Center and Ipas, the conference “builds on a decade of work linking research to action to reduce unsafe abortion in Sub-Saharan Africa.”
