The late Prime Minister Meles Zenawi never managed to mend his embattled relations with many Ethiopian Diaspora

On May 28^th 1991, following the control by members of the Tigray People Liberation Front (TPLF) of Ethiopia, millions of Ethiopians in and outside of the country rejoiced in unison. After 17 years of civil war that killed thousands of Ethiopians and forced hundreds of women to become single mothers, there was no better news for everyone than the architect of the sheer terror Ethiopians had to endure for 17 years was finally down.

Ethiopian Parliament to swear in Hailemariam this Friday

The national parliament has been called from its recess to reconvene on Friday 21^st September to swear in Prime Minister-in-wait Hailemariam Desalgen.

The Council of Ethiopia’s ruling party, the Ethiopian Peoples’ Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF), elected Hailemariam Desalegn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, to become its chairman replacing the late PM Meles Zenawi in its regular session on 14^th and 15^th of September.

Demeke Mekonnen of ANDM is deputy chairman

The Council of Ethiopia’s ruling party, the Ethiopian Peoples’ Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF), in its regular meeting held on Sep. 14th and 15th, elected Hailemariam Desalegn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, to become its chairman replacing the late PM Meles Zenawi.

The same meeting also elected Demeke Mekonnen, currently the Minister of Education, as Deputy Chairman of the party in its last day deliberations today  Sep. 15th .
