Save for a courageous struggle by one group, Ethiopia is one of the countries in Africa where contemporary dance remains unpopular

Zela Gayle

East Africa is a thriving place for experiencing contemporary dance. With the many popular dance forms that exist in the 21st Century; Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda all play host to annual dance festivals, inviting worldwide artists to share in the exchange of experiences for the development of African dance cultures. Many of these countries are home to a dazzling fusion of contemporary dance performances.

Holding strongly onto the roots of traditional dances from the indigenous tribes, Ethiopia is yet to bring its part of contemporary dance in line with the rest of the world’s contemporary dance.

Dear editor,

I came across with you rather unique and fascinating magazine for the first time by a sheer coincides. I would like to extend my appreciation to the professional work accomplished by the team of writers on your magazine. Having said so, I would like to comment on your cover page story (What now?, April 2012). While you are undoubtedly right on highlighting the true side of the government in Eritrea, you recklessly mentioned containing the evils that President Esaias Afeworki is unleashing upon the entire region “doesn’t necessarily make Ethiopia the Good Samaritan trying to rescue Eritrea from the tyranny of Isaisas Afeworki.”

A day comes along every now and then when you look in your fridge and ask yourself “what am I supposed to do with this?” On these days, dinner can feel like a chore, but it’s a great excuse to raid your fridge and test your kitchen skills.

Keeping good staples in your fridge will make these days less painful. There are a few ingredients that are always in my pantry, fridge or freezer: tomatoes, eggs, mustard, chicken broth, and bacon. Adding one of these ingredients to a dish of leftovers almost always boosts the dish. Putting them together gives you almost all the fixings for a Cobb salad, my favorite hearty salad. Chopped into tiny pieces and tucked into a soft flour wrap, these leftovers make a fresh and tasty lunch.
